The Boingfire BFTL2KB is a compact, fanless network appliance kit built for modern edge networking, security, and IoT workloads. At its core is the Boingfire BFTL2 system board with an Intel® Celeron® J3455 quad-core processor and 4 GB onboard DDR4 memory, delivering a balanced mix of performance and power efficiency for SME, branch, and advanced home deployments.
Housed in the BFCASETL2S black anodized aluminum enclosure, the BFTL2KB offers 4 × Intel I226-V 2.5GbE LAN ports, dual full-size mSATA slots, 4 Mini-PCIe and 1 M.2 B-key expansion slot, plus support for up to 4 SIM slots, enabling versatile wired and cellular topologies in a minimal footprint.
A pre-installed mSATA SSD (capacity selectable at order time) gives you reliable solid-state storage from day one. With its 12 V DC input and fanless thermal design, the BFTL2KB typically draws only about 7.2 W in firewall scenarios, keeping operating costs low while staying silent and robust 24/7.
Designed for open-source networking, the BFT platform is optimized for leading projects such as CentOS, OpenBSD, OPNsense® and FreeBSD, making the BFTL2KB a natural choice for integrators and power users standardizing on open platforms.
Key Points
-
2.5GbE on Every Port – Four Intel I226-V 2.5GbE ports give you headroom beyond legacy 1GbE appliances, ideal for multi-gig broadband and high-throughput inter-VLAN routing.
-
Fanless, Low-Power, Always-On – No moving parts, silent operation, and ~7.2 W typical consumption at 12 V in firewall/router workloads—built for 24/7 edge deployments.
-
Built-In Expansion for LTE/5G & Wi-Fi – 4 × Mini-PCIe plus 1 × M.2 B-key slot let you add multiple 4G/5G, LTE, or Wi-Fi radios, turning one box into a powerful SD-WAN or multi-WAN gateway.
-
Multi-SIM Flexibility – Support for up to 4 SIM slots allows multi-carrier designs, intelligent failover, or region-specific SIM selection for global deployments.
-
Enterprise-Grade Security & Reliability – Intel® CPU with AES-NI for fast VPN and IPsec tunnels, watchdog timer for automatic recovery, and optional TPM 2.0 for secure key storage.
-
Installer-Friendly Form Factor – Compact 189 × 157 × 29 mm aluminum enclosure fits easily in network cabinets, small racks, or tight edge locations.
-
Brandable & OEM-Ready – Optional custom port labels, enclosure logo printing, BIOS presets, and OS pre-installation let resellers ship fully branded solutions under their own name.
Typical Use Cases
-
Next-Gen Firewall / UTM
Deploy as an OPNsense®/FreeBSD-based firewall with multi-WAN, VPN, and IDS/IPS. Four 2.5GbE ports easily map to WAN, LAN, DMZ, and management segments. -
SD-WAN / Multi-WAN CPE
Combine wired WAN plus multiple LTE/5G links via Mini-PCIe/M.2 modules, use the SIM slots for carrier diversity, and build resilient SD-WAN or branch connectivity. -
VPN Concentrator / Remote Access Gateway
Quad-core J3455 with AES-NI accelerates IPsec/OpenVPN/WireGuard-class workloads, ideal for branch-to-HQ tunnels, remote worker access, or MSP-managed VPN services. -
IoT / Edge Computing Gateway
Use GPIO, serial ports, and cellular modules to connect field devices, industrial sensors, and remote sites while centralizing security policies at the edge. -
VoIP / IP-PBX Platform
Combine multi-WAN connectivity with an open-source IP-PBX stack and use the 2.5GbE ports for voice VLANs, SIP trunks, and management networks.
